Gala er dáin , grundvöllurinn brostinn,

hún gekk í burt með tign sem henni ber,

ég er þá einnig ógn og dauða lostinn

og ást og gleði deyja senn í mér.

 

Hún var mér allt og ást mín fylgir henni

að endalokum þess sem fyrrum var,

þótt sinueldar ævi hennar brenni

í augum mínum, deyr hún líka þar.

 

Svo leggur dauðinn lokahendur sínar

á líf sem engum tekst að vaxa frá,

og allt er hljótt um uppákomur mínar

og allt mitt líf sem brunnið sinustrá.
